Together supporting microfinance
and microinsurance in the South

Our history

Why does a modern Belgian company in the 21st century bear the name of a mayor of a rural German village that goes back to the 19th century? A lack of inspiration?

Oh no! Quite the contrary, in fact. Read all about it in the story about how we came into being.

Raiffeisen writes history

'We do together what we are too small to do alone'.

These words, written by Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, form the basis of an innovative way of combating poverty: cooperative banking.

Discover how his words write history and why they have now been translated at BRS into 'Together supporting microfinance and microinsurance in the South'.

And our source of inspiration

The 'Belgian Raiffeisen Foundation' was founded in 1992. Since then, our name has become shorter and more punchy: BRS. Raiffeisen's original ideas however remain our source of inspiration.
