Strengthening the savings and credit operation of UCMECS for farmers' groups in North Togo in collaboration with Louvain Coopération.
This project is located in the dry savannah region of northern Togo (8 470 km2, 830 000 inhabitants). More than 90% of the population live below the poverty line. The primary activity is subsistence agriculture.

UCMECS (Union des Caisses Mutuelles d'Epargne et de Crédit des Savanes) is a network of 8 Caisses created in 2004.

The organization currently has 58,794 clients and 65 employees.

BRS has been supporting this project of Louvain Coopération, which constitutes part of their 'food security and economic development in the Savannah region in Togo' programme, since 2004. In the project, Louvain Coopération collaborates with different NGOs and with UCMECS, the union of savings and credit cooperatives that collaborate with BRS.

Since 2017, BRS has supported the UCMECS with a more efficient customer reporting system, the development and launch of a number of new products (including youth savings) and the optimisation of the entire credit process.
