Three billion. 3,000,000,000. That’s the number of people who, according to the World Bank, live below the poverty line worldwide and have difficulty accessing financial services. A problem with far-reaching consequences but with a simple solution: solidarity, with respect for all.
BRS shapes this solidarity through microfinancing and tailor-made insurance. It gives people breathing space to build their lives and improve their quality of life.
Coffee farmers in Honduras, rice growers in Burkina Faso, bakers in East Timor: people around the world are working hard to make ends meet with the opportunities and resources that life gave them. BRS supports microfinancing institutions that offer them and other people the opportunity to improve their situation permanently.
With a financial boost and good advice, rural entrepreneurs and farmers can buy better raw materials or get their business off the ground. This creates thriving small businesses that also help their owners flourish. And the best part is that the rest of the community grows alongside them, because successful entrepreneurs in the South send their children to school, take care of their families and hire staff.
Or how a little incentive can turn the tide...
But there’s more. Our credits come about through cooperation. A very powerful and efficient way of helping one another. BRS has built a strong community in both the North and the South, which continues to grow every day. It includes members, microfinancing organisations, entrepreneurs, farmers, employees and volunteers.
