Kobusinge Margaret from Oeganda

The keychains are made by more than 500 women from the region, each specializing in a particular craft. In addition to keychains, they also produce baskets, drums, chairs, and other handmade items. The women deliver their products directly to the shop and receive fair compensation for their work immediately.

The products are sold to local customers, organizations, other craft shops, and international tourists. As a result, the creations from Fort Portal find their way to customers both within Uganda and abroad.

Hofokam Ltd plays an important role in this story. The microfinance institution regularly purchases products in large quantities, connects customers with the shop, and provides financial support to both the business and the women’s groups. Thanks to this partnership, the craftswomen have access to a stable market for their products.

The impact of this collaboration extends far beyond sales. The income generated from the sale of keychains and other handcrafted products enables hundreds of women to support their families and invest in their children’s education. In addition, the shop itself creates employment opportunities for several staff members. In this way, these creations carry not only a story but also new opportunities for women and their communities.
